Setting up a "longboard club" format

Its common for Australian longboard clubs to run a format that uses the following:

  • All athletes compete in two heat
  • After the first round, heats are organised by their place in the first round (e.g. all first place go together, all second place go together, etc)
  • The winner of the event is the winner of the "Firsts" heat

LiveHeats allows you to set up these formats in a way that also corresponds with the correct rankings.

We call this format the "longboard club" format since its most commonly used in Australian longboard clubs, but it can apply to any LiveHeats supported sport type.

How to set up a "longboard club" format

  1. Once you've created the event, click on a division from the  Event dashboard
  2. Once all athletes are registered (or you've added them), and you're ready to draw the heats, click  Division settings
  3. Set and the  Progression between rounds to be "0 progress" and click  Save
  4. Then, click  Draw heats. This will produce a heat draw with one round only.
  5. Click into  Round settings by clicking the three dots next to each round, and scroll to the  Progression to next rounds field. Click  Create custom progression
  6. Now, you'll want to set up progression so that all places are grouped together by rounds. If you have 4 heats of 4 athletes for example, this means you'll have 5 total rounds (1 first round, plus 1 round per heat - each place group will have its own round). For example, if we had 4 heats of 4 athletes in round 1, we should set the following progressions:
  • 1sts go to round 5
  • 2nds go to round 4
  • 3rds go to round 3
  • 4ths go to round 4
  • If you have a different amount of heats and people in the first round, you'll need to continue until you've catered for all places in round 1
  1. Once done, click  Redraw heats. As an option, you can re-name the rounds by the place (e.g. 1sts) in the Round settings for that round.

The video below displays how this format is configured in a 16 athlete, 4 heat field.
